OUR JOURNEY
At Wow Cake Company our aim has always been to produce the best gluten, wheat and nut free cake and biscuit mixes and flour. To make at home, eat and share with your family and not know they are gluten free!
In the space of three years we progressed from our kitchen table to a rented unit to having our mixes made in a factory.
We started with our sponge mix, then brownie and followed closely by the Carrot Cake Mix. It wasn’t easy and many hours baking culminated in some disastrous results, but finally we perfected the recipes and we were ready to go.
Our first foray into the market was at the Coeliac Society Carlisle Show. What a success – we sold out! This gave us the confidence to move to factory production so that we could concentrate on sales and product development.
We then took the plunge to take a stall at Cake International at Alexandra Palace in London. We had the most amazing time and realised that there were professional bakers out there that needed gluten free mixes. We now have a following of bakers who use our mixes for celebration and wedding cake production.
After much hard work we started selling through Ocado and Booths as well as online.
Throughout this time we were beset by production problems which wasted ingredients and packaging and, more importantly, left us with no stock to sell. We searched for a new manufacturer but with no success. In 2019 we decided to create a new manufacturing company to produce our mixes where we could be totally confident that the premises were gluten free, no cross contamination could occur and where we could produce the mixes in a much more cost effective way. Our sister company, Wow Cake Manufacturing Ltd started production in September 2019.
Throughout this time we continued our research and experimentation and finally we were delighted to come up with our newest Wow product - our all purpose flour. This flour now forms the basis of all our mixes too and as it is free from egg and dairy it allows us to produce mixes that are egg and dairy free as well and, more important, still with the same high quality and yield that make Wow mixes stand out from the crowd.
